Oct 1st ... the hardest month of the year, during my favorite season of the year. October is breast cancer awareness month. Now known as when every organization and company tries to capitalize on breast cancer. Also a month that in every direction I turn, I'm reminded of breast cancer. This is a very difficult time for anyone who has fought/is fighting the disease or those who lost loved ones to it. Awareness is ... 1 of 8 women will get breast cancer. 85% who get it do not have a genetic predisposition. A woman’s risk of breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Women who do not have children, or have them later in life, have an increased risk. Get your mammograms ladies and do your monthly self exams!!! Also, men get breast cancer too. The best way to minimize your risk is through nutrition, activity, and a lower BMI, and not drinking. Early detection saves lives. If you want to donate to an organization, do your homework! Many popular breast cancer nonprofits don't donate as much as you would expect to the cause. If you want to help someone like me, donate to research! We need find a cure!!! Or give to an organization that does outreach to underserved or undereducated communities. Here are a few of my favorite breast cancer moments from the last few years ... #fucancer #breastcancer#octoberissohard #doyourresearchbeforeyoudonate
